Refugee Camps Around the World

Google Earth’s new mapping program takes you on a virtual reality tour with the UN refugee agency of some of the world’s major displacement crises and the humanitarian efforts aimed at helping the victims.

The first use of this geospatial tool focuses on refugees and displaced people located in remote areas of Chad, Iraq, Colombia and Sudan’s volatile Darfur region. Sit in front of your computer and, with a few clicks, see, hear and develop an emotional understanding of what it is like to be a refugee.

Highlighted are not only the physical area of the camp and surrounding country, but key parts of daily life such as education and health in photo, text and video format. Within seconds, Google Earth brings the daily life of a refugee camp into your home thousands of kilometres away.

Remove & Reinstall TCP/IP in Windows XP

If you’ve ever had networking troubles in Windows XP, you may have noticed there’s no easy way to remove & reinstalled TCP/IP.   There are easy to find ways to “reset” TCP/IP, and the WinsockFix repair too is also useful.  But sometimes you just need to uninstall TCP/IP and reinstall it.  Here’s how:

1.    Click Start, and then click Run.
2.    In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3.    Locate the following registry subkeys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

4.    Right-click each key, and then click Delete.
5.    Click Yes to confirm the deletion of each key.
6.    Close Regedit.
7.    Locate the Nettcpip.inf file in %winroot%\inf, and then open the file in Notepad.
8.    Locate the [MS_TCPIP.PrimaryInstall] section.
9.    Edit the Characteristics = 0xa0 entry and replace 0xa0 with 0×80.
10.    Save the file, and then exit Notepad.
11.    In Control Panel, double-click Network Connections, right-click Local Area Connection, and then select Properties.
12.    On the General tab, click Install, select Protocol, and then click Add.
13.    In the Select Network Protocols window, click Have Disk.
14.    In the Copy manufacturer’s files from: text box, type c:\windows\inf, and then click OK.
15.    Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.

Note This step will return you to the Local Area Connection Properties screen, but now the Uninstall button is available.

16.    Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click Uninstall, and then click Yes.
17.    In Control Panel, double-click Network Connections, right-click Local Area Connection, and then select Properties.
18.    On the General tab, click Install, select Protocol, and then click Add.
19.    In the Select Network Protocols window, click Have Disk.
20.    In the Copy Manufacturer’s files from text box, type c:\windows\inf, and then click OK.
21.    Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.
22.    Restart your computer.
