Electric Cars Are Coming! ....... Over 20 Years Ago

Car and Driver magazine in 1980:
The media are making all kinds of noise lately to the effect that electric cars are coming, that they’re going to help us kick our imported-oil habit, and that you’ll be able to drive them for pennies a day.A company that can develop a non-petroleum-fueled car palatable to the masses stands to make a pretty good buck. That’s why GM will shell out some undisclosed number of billions on electric vehicle development during the next five or so years. It’s a tall order, but GM is already well on the way to pulling it off. Whether the buyers will be there, however, is a question GM is still struggling to answer. A study commissioned by Gulf & Western predicts that we’ll have something like 34 million EVs - about one quarter of the national fleet - on the road by the year 2000. GM ... has publicly committed itself to mass-producing electric cars by the mid-to-late 1980s – probably 100,000 per year or more.
Sound familiar??  This isn't the first time the auto industry has promised us greener, electric powered cars. Pressure must stay on the automotive industry, or again the promises might not be followed through.

Blatant Hypocrisy

Viacom, a company owning television stations such as Comedy Central and VH1 are in a current suit against Google due to clips of their television shows (notably The Daily Show and The Colbert Report amongst others) showing up on YouTube without their permission.  They claim this is a blatant violation of their copyrights and should be prevented or YouTube shut down.  They have filed thousands of "take-down notices" to have videos removed from YouTube.  Many not even violating their copyrights.  Now it appears they're claiming copyright violation on a video of them violating the copyright of the person posting the accused video. More in depth here.

3 Cards...... 1 Company

This makes no sense to me.   I hate credit cards.  Hate them with a passion.  But in today's world having at least 1 for emergencies, online purchasing, or age verification basically makes them a neccessity.  I use mine as LITTLE as I possibly can.  Unfortunately, with car breakdowns, roommates that can't pay their share of the bills/rent, etc I've had to use them a bit over the past few years.  Originally I had 3 cards from 3 different companies.  Only ever used 2.  Since then my credit line on them has continuously increased so my need for multiple cards has diminished, but I'm now stuck unable to combine them because since I got them all 3 have been bought out by the same company..... Bank of America.  Yet, they kept the cards seperate even though they are all under 1 account in my name.  So I'm stuck paying 2 minimum balances and interest on 2 cards from 1 company.  I'm currently trying to convince them to cancel all 3 cards and move the balances onto just 1 card with 1 payment that I can pay off easier, quicker, and while saving myself some money monthly that can be put aside to my other bills.  We'll see how this goes... What I hate more than credit cards....   Credit Card Companies.
