NetFlix for Books!

A new company has come out recently with the idea of applying the NetFlix idea to books.  With plans starting at $20 / month you get books in the mail, keep them as long as you want, then send them back and get a new one.  The main page is a little sparse at the moment due to server problems with the sudden BOOM in popularity, but should be back to normal soon.  Give it a look. Free Online Virus/Spyware Scans

Pretty much any anti-virus company now has a free online virus scanner, but some are better than others, and some will remove what they find while others will not. Housecall From TrendMicro is my personal favorite. It is very good at finding and removing most viruses and spyware and can also look for missing updates, open ports, etc.

Dial-A-Human

Hate calling up a large company and having to wade through all the levels of computer options just to get to a human to talk to?   A website called Dial-A-Human lists methods for many of the most common large companies to go straight to a human without having to go through the headaches of the menus.  Can be very useful. http://www.dialahuman.com/

Electric Company

So today is one of the hottest days of the year.   High is 95F  and Heat Index is above 100F.  7/6/07 I receive a notice that the electric company hadn't received my check and would turn my power off on 7/10 if they hadn't received payment by 7/9.   I cancelled the first check and mailed a new one out on 7/7.  I figured it would get there on 7/9 and everything would be fine.  Now on 7/9 they didn't get my check by 10 am and so shut my power off already.   I'm not pleased.   Working on getting the power back on, but now because of the 10 AM rule I need to pay an additional $25.  All because either they or the Post Office lost my first check.
