Top 10 Health Care Bill Myths

1) Even though this has already been covered,  no,  the government will NOT kill or assist the suicide of your grandparents.  After all, if Demo wanted senior citizens to have long and healthy lives, why would we have created Social Security and Medicare? Think about it. Death to grannies has long been the core of progressive policy, 2) No one is going to kill or "stop healthcare support"  for Sarah Palin's baby.  The legislation may actually get her better support. 3) The government will not nationalize hospitals and other health service providers. 4) The reason the bill is not available for review yet?  The bill is not written yet.  They have proposals, but no final bill to show.  When they have one, if they still don't allow review, THEN complain. 5) The bill WILL NOT subsidize abortions.  Both FactCheck.org and Politifact insist that this was decided on months ago. 6) The government will NOT have direct access to anyone's bank account. Not only is it not needed, it would also be illegal. 7) This bill covers AMERICANS.  There is NOTHING in the bill to provide the healthcare of illegal immigrants.  Also, why would they be provided to illegal immigrants while you claim Americans would have to run through a bureaucracy and denied all health-care?  That makes no sense. 8 ) Private health insurance will not be eliminated.  WILL NOT.  As in YOU WILL STILL HAVE PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE IF YOU WANT TO KEEP IT. 9) You will not be issued a "National Health Insurance ID."   You will be issued the same type of proof of insurance that every other health insurance company provides.  And it would only be for the people that signed up for the public health insurance option. It's very useful for when you need health care and would like the insurance to cover it. 10) There is no Super-Duper-Secret Health Care Plan for ACORN members. Politifact shows that ACORN isn't the all-incompassing evil Illuminati group the right seems to think it is, but either way, they get no special treatment. So there.  Now that the Top Republican talking-points have been addressed, how about addressing the actual problems that need solving?

It's Not The Government's Job .... Or Is It?

So to be clear, it's NOT the government's job to:

  • Create Jobs
  • Buy new cars to 1) Help the environment by switching to hybrids and 2) help save jobs in the automobile industry
  • Borrow and spend money, or raise taxes to support government programs
  • Provide funds to help provide for lengthened unemployment benefits during an economic downturn
  • Regulate or help in any way the financial sector to save jobs or lessen the damage to the economy
Or at least that's what Republicans have been arguing for the past few months.  Many of these have good arguments and deserve discussion.

Suddenly however, with the announcement of the change of direction for the military by Sec. Gates Republicans are falling over each other to save their favorite unneeded or overly-expensive project to save jobs in their state/district.  This at the same time many of those states and claiming they're going to turn down funds for job creation and unemployment benefits.

Another arguement is that these cuts will "disarm America" and somehow make us weaker in the world.  Even though the change in the budget will provide:

– An increase in “intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) support for the warfighter in the base budget by some $2 billion.”

– An additional “$500 million more in the base budget than last year to increase our capacity to field and sustain more helicopters – a capability that is in urgent demand in Afghanistan.”

– “To grow our special operations capabilities, we will increase personnel by more than 2,800 or five percent and will buy more special forces-optimized lift, mobility, and refueling aircraft.”

All of which are needed for the wars we are currently fighting and are likely to fight in the future, not some mythical war from some yet to be declared enemy.

The projects cut  are focused on fighting a large, powerful enemy .... such as China ...  by borrowing money to fund these projects ....  from countries such as China ... and thus helping fund our potential enemies while arming to fight them.

The change in direction shouldn't be focused on jobs, as that's not the military's goal, though that seems to be where Republicans finally decide to change their tune.  Even though this change in budget also provides for MORE personnel, MORE healthcare for veterans, and MORE material support.  They seem to just love their military toys, and their large defense contractor friends.

Impeach Cheney

A few days ago I wrote about Cheney's recent absurdity that he is somehow a 4th branch of government as he's claiming to not be a part of the legislative or executive branch of government. This is after all the lies, hindrances to a transparent government, and possibly illegal acts he's done. Well some representative's in the House of Representatives are finally doing something about it. They have drafted and submitted to the House Judiciary CommitteeH. Res. 333. This is an article of impeachment against Vice President Cheney. 14 representatives have already announced support for it (and introduced by a representative from Ohio). If you would like to voice your support for the resolution, contact your congressperson and visit the sites below. True Majority Impeach Cheney
