taxcuts The Bush Tax Cuts vs. The Democrats Tax Cuts (Graphic)

Republicans have been up in arms as of late about the deficit spending going on at the Federal level.  Much of this is a very good thing if maybe a little "too-little-too-late".  Unfortunately they've also gone against bills that have been fully paid for (such as the state/teacher aid bill) by using the same argument.  What makes even less sense though is the argument that we should extend the Bush tax cuts and that anything less is a full tax increase.  The tax cuts add $36 billion to the deficit at the time Republicans are arguing that we should be cutting the deficit.  The Democrat's plan would KEEP most of the tax cuts that the Republicans want, would lower the deficit amount, and only raise taxes on those that could afford it.  People earning $200,000-$500,000 would see a minor increase, with most of the gap being closed at $500,000 and higher.

At a time when Republicans are claiming we need to sacrifice to get out of the budget hole we're in, income to the top 10% of the population continues to increase, and income to the rest of us actually stagnates or decreases, why do they seem to insist only the middle-class needs to do that sacrificing?
